VENDOR: Skywind Group
BONUS GAME: Yes
Like some of Skywind’s other slots on Fun88 Games, Legend of the Dragon Koi isn’t too heavy on the visuals. Symbol animations are limited to the wilds, and the art is simply adequate rather than spectacular. Some, however, may appreciate their choice of a more subdued, pastel-like palette this time around as opposed to the usual punchy colors that are common among oriental-themed video slots. The background music, which only plays while you’re actually interacting with the game itself, is of the relaxing sort, rather than of the fast-paced variety.
As always, the game’s 3x5 reels, which are set against a backdrop that seems to be a tranquil, moonlit pond, will take up the bulk of your screen, while the area at the bottom is reserved for your HUD. The controls should be a familiar affair to those who have played SW’s other slots on Fun88 Games before but are also easy enough to get a handle on even for beginners. Be reminded, though, that your wins are multiplied by your coin bet rather than your total bet, both of which are displayed towards the left of the HUD.
GAME RULES AND PAYOUTS
Legend of the Dragon Koi features 11 basic symbols: there are gold, blue, and pink versions of the titular fish, and they are joined by a lotus, a dragonfly, a wispy flower, and the A – 10 card symbols. To make up for the large variety of symbols, you can win on a total of 30 lines, though they still all start with the leftmost reel, as is the norm.
The three dragon koi symbols, naturally, are the most highly-valued, with the gold awarding up to x250 of your coin bet, the blue up to x200, and the pink up to x150. But while the regular wins aren’t too shabby at all, what you’ll really be after while playing are the wild, dragon gate symbols, which only appear on reels 2 through 4. Land at least six of them on any of the nine possible tiles, and you’ll trigger the bonus game, where you can really rack up the wins.
When you trigger the bonus game, you’ll be prompted to choose which fish you want to send through the dragon gate to turn into a real dragon. You’ll have to choose between one, two, or all three fish, as their symbols will be replaced with golden dragons, the game’s second wilds. Do note, however, that the number of fish you send through is inversely proportional to the number of free spins you’re awarded for the bonus game.
With 30 lines and 2 wilds in play, the bonus game’s free spins are your chance to really rake in the cash. And the best part is that you can trigger the bonus game yet again, for potentially unlimited free spins.
While Legend of the Dragon Koi has no special jackpots to speak of, its bonus game more than makes up for that. The potential for unlimited free spins isn’t anything new, of course, but one thing that sets the game apart from others on Fun88 Slots is the fact that the number of free spins awarded scales with the number of dragon gate symbols you land. The maximum of 9 dragon gates, for example, can award you with up to 60 free spins.
Additionally, the game’s highest-tiered symbols, the three dragon koi, are extra special as you win for landing at least two of them in any of the specified lines, instead of the usual minimum of three.
8 out of 10
While some players may take issue with the absence of scatters and lack of a true jackpot in Legend of the Dragon Koi, the consecutive, multi-line wins you can rack up during the bonus game still make it among those on Fun88 Games worth checking out.
